  • At Irons McDuff Architecture we are aware of the excessive environmental footprint per capita created in Australia relative to many other countries in the world. Therefore, we like to practice what we preach by experiencing first hand the mechanisms we suggest to others and incorporating environmentally friendly principles in our operations.
  • Travel - Irons McDuff Architecture endeavours to reduce its environmental impact in travelling between projects and within general practice requirements. The Irons McDuff Architecture car is rated in the top ten green vehicles by the Government of Australia, and number one wagon. In addition Irons McDuff Architecture is a member of GREENFLEET and Climate Friendly, which offsets carbon emissions produced by vehicular travel. Additionally, any flights are recorded and offset with Climate Friendly. When in Melbourne or travelling locally, Irons McDuff Architecture use public transport, push bikes or ‘Flexicar’.
  • Premises - The office is a recycled garage, heavily insulated and fitted out to provide comfortable and light office premises. Materials include recycled windows and doors where possible, double glazing, natural materials such as plywood and rubber, and recycled materials such as recycled paper pin-boards. Hot water service is solar heated, and water saving devices and rainwater collection are run on the site. Our office utilises natural ventilation, removing any need for air-conditioning. Computers, a necessity in today’s dynamic world, are typically laptops and run on energy saving mechanisms. Lighting is low energy fluorescent.
  • Stationery - In producing the visual imagery so important in our industry, much paper wastage and printing can add to waste disposal and landfill issues. Irons McDuff Architecture has continually researched products through the Green Consumer Guide and utilise Australian made recycled paper in all their production. Paper is always recycled through the office, while print sizes are reduced and provided in double sided format where possible. All ink cartridges are recycled through Cartridge World.
  • Waste Management - Co-mingled recyclables are collected and organic waste composted. Any redundant equipment is donated or recycled by registered recyclers.
  • Climate Neutral Operations - Power supply is 100% Green Power (wind)
